Time Flies

When I was 12 years old, the radio bug bit me. Of course at that age, every kid listens to the radio, but my older brother used to go see the deejays when they were broadcasting live, and once or twice, he took me along. He always had this huge grin on his face when the air personality would look his way.

My love of music, and the thrill that the radio stars added to the atmosphere sparked a fire in me that charted my vocational course. I didn’t know anything about being on the radio, I just knew I wanted to do it. After regular mock radio shows in my friend Dave’s bedroom, and after studying broadcasting and hosting a morning radio show in college for 4 years, I was ready to do this for a living.

I was hired at my first job 30 years ago this week. Middays on WNKO-FM, Newark, Ohio. They offered me $150 a week, and I couldn’t believe my good luck.

This week, 30 years later I still can’t believe I get to do this.

Time DOES indeed fly. I was listening to WOMX when you came on board and have been a loyal listener ever since. Whenever I am in the car, the radio is tuned to your station. I was saddened to hear of your cancer challenge. Life has a way of plopping hurdles down in front of us when we least expect them, it seems. Hang in there. You will come out of this stronger than you went in. Thanks for all the laughs you and Erica have given me all these years. I look forward to many more.

I just wanted to drop you a line of encouragement. My grandmother also had non-hodgkins lymphoma. After her treatment she lived in remission for fifteen years. She did pass away, but that was fourteen years ago (Saturday). I am amazed how far treatment has come since then, even. There is so much more available now, and my thoughts and prayers are with you and you family.

Wow! 30 years already??? How can that be? Look at you 30 years ago! Outside of the hairstyle, you really have hardly changed. How can THAT be? I always bring your name up whenever the conversation veers to jobs- love them or hate them. I know how much you have always enjoyed doing what you do and it shows by your incredible work AND work ethic. I only wish that I could listen to you on a daily basis, because it would be so incredible to be able to start my day listening to your show. Those of you in Orlando don’t realize how jealous I am! Scott, you are one lucky dude to have your passion also be your life’s work but I am even luckier to have you for my brother!!! I love you! I wish you 30 more years in the business!!

What a cutie!!! I use to work at WHOO and WLOF back in the 70’s not as a personality but in the office I absolutely loved it. Thanks for sharing your life!

Glad you sound so good on the radio still. Still Praying

Yes time does fly. I have lived in 4 homes, been married, widowed, had 3 jobs, gone back to college, lived in two different counties, been to Canada, gone on 4 cruises, visited Boston, Seattle, San Francisco, Sonoma Valley, Denver, NYC, Great Smokey Mountains, Blue Ridge Mountains, Las Vegas, Camping in Yosemitte, took an airplane ride over the Grand Canyon, San Francisco, Vancouver, had 4 dogs, 4 cats, started a new career and married again. I am still shocked to see a 40 year old woman and not a 25 year evertime I look in the mirror. I haven’t done as much as some people, but I have done more than some. Through all my ups and downs the one constant is that I have listened to the same radio station with Scott and Erica for 15 years

Wow! Cart mo-sheens! Gotta love ‘em! I was a DJ in Gainesville at 98.5 KTK and remember having to clean the heads of every one of them in the building before the morning show hit the air (I guess they thought I didn’t have enough to do during the overnights). I DJ’ed for 7 years but couldn’t get words to flow from my brain to my mouth to save my life. So I followed another dream of mine (driving monorails), and guess what followed me to Disney: cart machines. At the time, that’s what they used for the spiels. The guys in Monorail Shop couldn’t understand how I new so much about them or why I chose ‘rails over radio.
